People are getting more and more sun savvy and are more careful when outside.  Using sunscreen is an important part of protecting ourselves from the harmful rays.  With so many products on the market, what sunscreen is the best to use?  Which product will protect you the most?

The first thing to be aware of is you need a sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.  UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and causes more genetic damage to our cells.  They cause premature skin aging (wrinkles) and skin cancer.  UVA are the rays that cause tanning and can penetrate glass and clouds. UVA is connected to the “broad-spectrum protection” you see labeled on some sunscreen brands.  UVB rays, on the other hand, cause sunburns and do not penetrate glass.  They are connected to the SPF (sun protection factor) factor on sunscreens.

Unfortunately, not all sunscreens protect us from both UVA and UVB.  You need to ensure your product provides both broad-spectrum protection as well as a high level of SPF protection. It should be easily absorbed with minimal to no residue (and minimal to no fragrance).  Sunscreen need to be applied generously every three – four hours.
